The Gottschall Site...
The cool-est thing I
did was participate in a class called Archeology - Field Work. This meant that
about 8 of us drove an hour to this rockshelter (cave) which was called The
Gottschall Site. The dig and the site are run by Beloit College, which has an
excellent archeology program. These are the pictures from this unique
experience.
The RockShelter
A portion of the mother pot... The largest and oldest pot (in 1989)
This is the actual excavation area. Each person worked in a foot square
by inch deep area. Small trowels were used to search each layer for artifacts.
There were actual cave drawings on the overhang inside the cave.
